There’s plenty to think about when deciding on your student living arrangements, such as cost, when and how often payment is required, safety and security, as well as what experiences and support services are provided. University is a really fun and memorable time and it’s important to ensure that you enjoy the best student experience possible..

Sharing accommodation, such as private student housing and halls of residence can help you make friends with like-minded people with similar interests as you and have the same experiences as students.

Students can opt for different types of uni accommodation which are typically halls of residency or private residences. Uni rooms tend to come in various shapes and sizes such as studio, ensuite and non-ensuite, and shared rooms.

If you are thinking about going to university but are unsure about what kind of university accommodation options there are, you must investigate before making any major decision.

University Accommodation for Students

There are different types of student housing that students have the option of choosing from when they decide where to stay during their time at university.

One type of accommodation for students at uni is halls of residence that is most likely the most sought-after type of accommodation for the first-year students at university. Halls of residence are like flats and offer fully-furnished bedrooms, potentially with bathrooms with an ensuite. Each student flat has a certain number of rooms and includes a communal kitchen and living area where students can cook together and socialize but this is contingent on the university or accommodation place you live in.

If you’re a first year student and have the opportunity to secure accommodation in one of the residence halls, they might be a possibility and a great way to find people you might like to live with in the second year of your studies.

Halls of Residence are usually owned and operated by universities. Bills are normally included and the rent is paid in installments. Because of the halls of residence being offered by your university, you are guaranteed that the area will be convenient and the commute to classes or the library of your university should be relatively simple.

Private Residence

Another popular type of student housing is private halls. This kind of accommodation is not owned by a university but is privately owned by a landlord or company.

Bills are always included in rent, but they might not be included in other types of private housing, which is something to think about when planning your finances for university. Rent is typically paid monthly or in termly instalments, with the initial payment often required before you move into your new home.

Some universities have a list of approved private accommodation providers , or you can do your own research to locate a private accommodation provider. Typically, private accommodation has the students with more space and could also provide studios for private use and private rooms with ensuites located in flats that are shared.

Private accommodation is a wonderful way students can not only be able to meet fellow students from the same college, as well as interact with students from other universities that may be living in the same accommodation block.

Student housing is also an important factor in student wellbeing and community, putting on year-round events to enjoy your university days.

What should you think about when Searching for a Student Housing?

When you’re deciding which type of accommodation for university is best for you, you’ll need be aware of what you’re searching for. It could be a private space to be entirely on your own while you are in your residence or you might prefer access to an open space where you can mix with other similar students.

You should consider a variety of variables, such as the number of people you’d like living with. You can live with a larger group if this interests you to be a part of or you can live with a smaller group to make you more at ease. You’ll typically have fewer options in a residence hall However, with private accommodation you can pick exactly the room you’d like.

In deciding what kind of student housing you’d like to live in, it is possible to be thinking about the size of space you’d like, and whether you’d like to live with other students.

It’s also a good idea to think about the possibility of choosing to reside on campus or off campus, as this will help you decide which university residences or private accommodations are better suitable for you. You should consider any amenities you’d like from your accommodations including internet access, fitness facilities, and social or study spaces. Make sure you read up on the facilities and amenities that are offered by different hotels to ensure you know the value you get for your money.

There’s a lot to consider when it comes to Leicester student accommodation and understanding how it operates. Be sure to do your research prior to committing to a student residence and verify whether your charges are included. This will provide you with financial freedom and allow you to take care of the important things such as making memories to last for a lifetime.
