In the past 50 years, many clinical and research studies have been conducted to determine the positive effects of laser therapy on various ailments. This is a brief listing of the most widely examined biochemical effects that have been observed with Soft-Laser Therapy.

Pain Relief

Soft-Laser Therapy eases pain by various biological mechanisms.

Laser Therapy blocks signals that signal pain from affected areas that are affected to brain. This reduces the sensitivity of nerves and dramatically reduces the sensation of pain.

Laser Therapy can also help reduce discomfort by reducing swelling and inflammation. This method does not “just” reduces pain , but it also speeds up healing process.

Laser Therapy also helps reduce inflammation by boosting the creation and release of the endorphins, and Enkephalins, which are natural pain relieving chemical substances within our bodies.

Inflammation Reduction

Soft-Laser Therapy causes smaller lymph vessels and arteries of the body to expand in size. This is known as vasodilation. The increased vasodilation causes swelling, inflammation and edema to be swept away from injuries more efficiently. Vasodilation also stimulates lymphatic drainage, which assists in this crucial healing process. It is common for bruises to heal faster because of this particular biological function.

Faster Wound Healing

Soft-Laser Therapy boosts the production of fibroblasts, which are the essential building blocks for the production of collagen. Collagen is the protein that is required to replace worn-out tissue or repair damaged tissues. This is because Laser Therapy is effective at treating burns and open wounds.

Increased Tissue Repair, Cell Growth and Accelerated Regeneration

The light beams produced by therapeutic lasers are absorbed through the tissue of our body and stimulate the cells that produce cell (mitochondria). This stimulates the amount of amount of energy available to these cells which causes them to absorb nutrients and flush out the waste more quickly. This speeds up the healing process of injured tissues, resulting in quicker tendon, ligament and muscle repair.

Increased Blood Flow

Soft-Laser Therapy is a significant boost to the growth of capillaries (tiny blood vessels) inside damaged tissues. By bringing more capillaries and blood to the area of injury healing speed is increased, wounds heal more quickly and scar tissue development is decreased.

A Boost in Metabolic Activity

Soft-Laser Therapy also has profound effect on individual blood cells passing across the beam of laser while treatment. The laser light dramatically boosts the oxygen and nutrients capacity of RBCs. (RBCs). This results in greater metabolic activity as well as the production of specific enzymes. These effects can be felt throughout the whole body and aren’t only limited to the areas that is exposed to the radiation.

Increased Nerve Function

Laser light accelerates the process of regenerating nerve cells which reduces the time needed for healing of nerve cells following
an injury.

Additionally, it increases the amplitude (strength) of the action potentials (signals that are transmitted through the nerve fibres) which enhances general muscle and nerve function.

These reasons and more explain the reason Laser Therapy is so beneficial in reducing symptoms due to nerve injuries, such as the sharp pain, numbness, burning, and tingling.

The scar tissue is less likely to form.

Lasers can reduce the growth of scar tissue (fibrous tissue) after tissue damage due to burns, cuts and operations. It can decrease scar tissue growth by speeding up the healing process, increasing the blood flow to the damaged area , and more effectively transferring the waste product. A faster healing process always results in less scar tissue.

Improved Immune Function

The laser light photons are directly absorption by the chromophores (molecular enzymes inside cells) which are found in the majority of cells in our body. Laser light absorption triggers an enzymatic reaction that stimulates creation of ATP. The ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the most vital type of energy that drives ALL chemical reactions in ALL cells in the body. The higher energy level leads to quicker and more efficient functioning particularly for immune-specific cells subjected to Laser Therapy. This increased efficiency assists the immune system to fight against pathogens and microbes that are harmful to the body.
