Baccarat is a very popular card game that is played in casinos around the world. It is especially well-known in Macau in Macau, where “Punto Banco” Baccarat accounts for around 90% of revenue from casinos. บาคาร่าsa is mostly an entirely a game of chance whereby player’s moves are dictated by the cards that they are dealt. Played against the banker, playing cards will be added and the player who is closest to 9 wins.

Baccarat was also prominently featured in the initial James Bond book, Casino Royale. The game was replaced by Poker in the latest big screen adaptation.

Baccarat Basic Rules

Court cards have no value Others have face value. Each hand begins with 2 cards. A third card can optionally be dealt. The values are summed and the hand closest to 9 wins. If the sum exceeds 9, the value is reset to 0 instead of increasing to 10 e.g. If a pair of playing cards is 6, 7 have the value of 3, not 13. Three cards 6, 9 and 9 are worth 4. You can ignore the number leading where the sum is 2 numbers.

The odds to stick or use a third card is easy – if your sum is below or 4 then take a second card, 6 or above stick and only if its five or more are the odds nearly equal. The house rules generally make the game simpler, since house rules typically require both player and banker to play the odds. The player’s only freedom of choice is normally when to ask for a third card if the sum is five. The banker can have more flexibility and could draw 3, 4 5, or 6 depending on what the player’s third card (which is placed face-up) is but still playing the game requires no skill.

Baccarat as described by Seymour in 1897

This game is known as in England for its English name “Baccara Banque” or simply “Baccara” but within France as “Baccara two tableaux” which is Baccara playing with 2 tables. It’s not often played in the USA. The definitive version of the rules was formulated in the “Hoyle” by Richard Seymour published in 1897.

It is usually a bidding game to decide who will be the one to pay the bank and the bank is kept for the duration of the cards that are in the shoe or until banker chooses to relinquish it (whether because of bankruptcy or otherwise). Similar to other games in banking when a deal is made, players compete head-to-head with the banker. To start, the banker places the money to be played on the table. Each player has the right to say “Banco to make the banker play for everything he has staked in one move. If this occurs the duel takes place directly and no other person is directly involved in the deal.

The normal game is played. Non-banking players are split in two halves with one half consisting of players just to the right of the banker, while the other is those to the left. For each deal a representative will be chosen from each side to take on the banker. At first, they are the two players on either on the side of the banker, however when a player loses, the right to play is transferred to the next participant and until all players participants on that end of table have been played and the representative duties return to the player who is next to the banker again. This means that with each transaction, the banker will play two head-to-head games against two half-table players.

The banker stakes the stake at the beginning, and players rotate to put in a stake of whatever amount until the sum for their half of the table is equal to the stake of the banker. The banker will then deal two cards to himself, and to the two representatives. When any bankers or players has the total number of 9 or 8 then it has to be displayed at once and the two hands that are not shown are followed by a bet being paid accordingly.

In other words each of the three gets a chance to get a third-class facing down starting with the player to the banker’s left and to the banker. If none of the players is willing to accept an additional card, the banker has to accept the third card. A third card is dealt face down and all hands are displayed and bets paid according to.

If a player holds an advantage over the banker, the banker will pay all bets on that side of the table. In the event that the player’s hand is less than the bankers, the banker will collect the bets placed on that part of the table. Otherwise it is a stand-off and there is no exchange of money.

Baccarat – Chemin de Fer

In France, this version that is played is referred to as Baccara a une table (Baccara that has only one table) However, in the US and UK it’s generally referred to as ‘Chemin de Fer’. Seymour has mentioned this as a variation of Baccarat, the implication being that the double-table game came first.

This version of Baccarat has two major ways to Baccarat a deaux tableaux. First, for every deal unless someone goes “Banco,” the banker only plays against the person to the banker’s right and the banker is paid by all players. Additionally, the bank switches hands much more frequently. For example, every time the dealer loses a coup, the banker role passes to the player to the left side of the banker.

Baccarat – Punto Banco

This form of Baccarat originates from Latin-America where it was introduced via Cuba to become the most well-known form of the game played throughout the USA. In order to completely confuse everyone throughout the world, Americans typically refer to the game to be “Baccarat-Chemin of Fer’.

There is a very similar game in playing, but the major difference is in the bank that in this case is held by the house or casino. Every draw pits the banker’s hand against the player’s hand and the players decide they want to bet on one or the other. The person who bets the highest on the hand of the banker gets dealt the cards and plays them but from standpoint of betting this person is no different to the other players betting on the player’s hand.

The cards’ shoe does still pass from player to one, but the person who is a dealer exclusively and doesn’t bankroll the betting. The dealer is otherwise no different from other players and may bet on the hand of the player or on the dealer’s hand, as well.
