The first major step in starting university life is finding accommodation. This is one the most important decisions you’ll make. It will impact how you learn and adapt to your new life as a student. Before you make a final decision about location, space, or accreditation of the property, there are many things to consider.
Here are the top 6 things that you should be looking out for when choosing Loughborough student accommodation.

Are you sure your student residence is in an ideal location?

So you’ve decided that Loughborough university is the right place for you. But, how do you plan to find a home? Before you start looking for a place to call home, think about where you’d like to be living during your studies.

Loughborough isn’t the largest city but there are plenty of options. The city centre is the ideal place to live if you want to be close enough to all the action or nightlife and your campus is in the center. Although it might be attractive for entertainment purposes, you will pay more for a house centrally located. You will generally get more for your dollar if you choose to live out of town. Not only is it cheaper, but you will also have access to more shops, restaurants, and other attractions close by. You can also be assured that transportation into town is not difficult to find.

How much room space are you allowed?

Next, decide how much space your bedroom will need. Is your bedroom spacious enough? Is there enough space to accommodate all your belongings and other things? The property may be shared with a friend, so that you have another consideration. It may appear that the rooms are large and empty at this point, but it is important to consider what you will do when you and your room-mates move into them.

You may see the perfect student house based on its description and pictures, but it’s not enough to know if it will be suitable for you. Our next point is…

See the property before signing

It may seem obvious, but many students sign the agreement before they’ve visited their accommodation. It is important to have visited the property at a minimum of once before you sign a property agreement. Any professional accommodation provider should be able offer you a viewing before making your final decisions.

You must inspect the property at all times. Verify that the property is in your desired location and matches the photos and description. Check that it doesn’t pose any dangers to your health and don’t hesitate to ask for clarifications or raise concerns.

Identify hidden charges

Many landlords do not consider the best interests of their tenants. Students, who will often be moving from their childhood home for the first-time, can be inexperienced as well as naive when it comes to finding their accommodation. Landlords are able to take advantage of this by hiding some costs until the agreement has been signed.

Check to see what is included in the rent for your property. All of your bills, including TV and broadband, are included in your total rental amount? Is there an additional fee you have to pay? If you are not sure if something has been included, don’t hesitate asking. Luxurious student homes offers an all-inclusive contract to make sure that your rent includes all bills.

Your deposit should be protected by your landlord

Your landlord is legally authorized to ensure that your deposit protection is in place. These schemes may include MyDeposits, Deposit Protection Service, and Tenancy Deposit Scheme. Once your agreement has ended, you should receive your deposit. This is provided that you have complied with all terms, avoided any damage to property, and paid all rent or bills as agreed.
