Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool ‘should have scored more’ in win over Benfica

Liverpool have agreed their first summer signing with Fulham attacker Fabio Carvalho set to join the club at the end of the season.

The Reds came close to signing the teenager in the January transfer window but the move fell through in the final hours. With the Fulham star’s contract expiring at the end of the season, though, the Reds have now sealed a contract with the player while a fee that could rise to £7.7m has been agreed with his club.

It comes as Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has vowed not to let the Reds “punish” his side in Sunday’s crunch Premier League clash at the Etihad. And Fabinho’s fitness status has been revealed after he picked up a nasty head injury in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg victory over Benfica.

Fabinho injury latest

Fabinho is expected to be fit to face Manchester City on Sunday despite suffering a head injury during theChampions League clash against Benfica.

The Brazilian gave Reds boss Jurgen Klopp an almighty scare after going down after a clash of heads with former Mancester City defender Nicolas Otamendi, and was left needing treatment. But Klopp has issued an update on the midfielder, saying he should be fit to face Pep Guardiola’s side at the weekend.

It means Liverpool face a clean bill of health heading into the crunch Premier League clash on Sunday.

Gundogan’s vow

Manchester City midfielder has said his side will be “careful” not to let Liverpool “punish” them on the counter-attack on Sunday.

The Etihad clash could go a long way towards deciding which team will win the Premier League title this season, with just one point separating the sides heading into the match. And Gundogan has been speaking about the prospect of facing an in-form Liverpool ahead of the big match.

Speaking on Turkish TV, the midfielder described Liverpool as “among the best teams in the world” as he shared Man City’s ambition to win the tie.

Carvalho signing agreed

Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho is set to join Liverpool in the summer for a fee that could rise to £7.7million.

The Championship star will join Jurgen Klopp’sside on July 1 for an initial fee of £5million, which could rise by another £2.7million with add-ons. The deal also includes a 20 per cent sell-on fee for Fulham and personal terms have also been agreed with the player un 2027.

It means the Reds have concluded their first signing of the summer, and can now press on with looking at other targets.
