Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool ‘should have scored more’ in win over Benfica

Liverpool will not be signing Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, according to manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Norway international is set to become one of the most sought-after signings of the year when a £64million release clause kicks in on his contract, although Klopp has ruled Liverpool out of the running for his signature. The Reds boss says the “numbers involved are just crazy” as he said his side have “no chance” of landing Haaland.

It comes as Mohamed Salah was supported by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson in a 2am ritual following the 3-1 Champions League win over Benfica. And Jurgen Klopp has shared his thoughts on Manchester City ahead of the Reds’ crunch Premier League title showdown at the Etihad on Sunday.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.

Klopp makes Man City claim

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has described Manchester City as the “best in the world” ahead of the two sides meeting this weekend.

Sunday’s clash could go a long way towards deciding the destination of this season’s Premier League title, with City heading into the match with a one point advantage in the Premier League table with just eight games remaining. And Klopp has appeared to reduce the pressure on his players heading into the tie, insisting that even a win may not secure them the title.

And turning up the pressure and expectation on City, the Reds manager described his side’s opponents as the “best in the world”

Salah’s 2am ritual

Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah took part in a late-night recovery session alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson following the 3-1 Champions League win over Benfica.

The Reds winger was pictured in a swimming pool with his teammates just hours after the victory, which helped Liverpool put one foot in the Champions League semi-finals ahead of the second leg at Anfield in a few weeks’ time. Salah updated his social media followers in the early hours of Wednesday morning to show the Liverpool players in their recovery session – and it’s far from the first time the Egyptian has taken part in the treatment after a big game.

Haaland transfer ruled out

Jurgen Klopp wants “nothing to do with” a potential mega-deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.

The Norway international has been hugely impressive since arriving in Germany in 2020, scoring 80 goals in 83 games for BVB. That form has led to him being linked with a move to some of the top clubs in Europe when a £64million release clause kicks in on his contract in the summer transfer window, but Klopp says the striker will still be too expensive for the Reds.

Speaking about Haaland, Klopp said: “We won’t be going there.”
