The month of May is fast-approaching as Spring soon turns into the Summer term for school children and families.
The weather is heating up with temperatures keeping steady and The Met Office are predicting May temperatures in the UK to “most likely be above normal”. Following Easter and spring half-term that has past, teachers are looking ahead for time off and families are looking to pre-book holidays away when the next half-term comes around.
But when is the May half term for UK school children? Here’s what we know about the summer half term period that will coincide with a special Royal event and May bank holidays.

How long is May half term 2022?
The 2022 summer term for school children in the UK begins from Monday April 25, according to the Birmingham Council website. In between this, the May half term commences from Monday May 30 and runs for a total of five days, or a week, to Friday June 3 2022.
It is recommended to check with your local authority via the government website for the exact dates for your children’s half term holidays and term dates. Summer term is expected to end on Thursday July 21 in schools that fall under the Birmingham council.
May half term will occur in the week of the Queen ‘s Platinum Jubilee. The Jubilee will have a bank holiday on Friday June 3 with the May spring bank holiday moving from the beginning of half term to Thursday June 2. This means that families may get more time to spend together whilst children are also off for their half term in this week period.
When is the next half term 2022?
Savour the summer half-term and six week summer holiday break. The following half-term will be in October 2022 from Monday October 24 for a week period to Friday October 28.
This will occur in the autumn term for school holidays in the UK, which will begin from Monday September 5 according to Birmingham Council. The term will end on Friday December 16 for the school year.
