A Martin Lewis fan has revealed how they slashed an essential bill from £800 to just £350 using his help. Gloria wrote into ITV Good Morning Britain and This Morning star Martin’s MoneySavingExpert website, revealing how they’d slashed the utility bill by £450 with his help.
Gloria revealed how she shaved her water bill by £450 just by getting a water meter. She said in her message to the financial expert and consumer champion: “I took your advice on having a water meter installed in April this year after our bill for 2023/24 came in at a whopping £799.
“I’ve just had my half-yearly bill and, based on that estimate, our annual bill should be around the £350 mark.” Gloria added to Mr Lewis, who also has a BBC Sounds podcast as well as his weekly MSE newsletter, that she has done “absolutely nothing different” in regards water consumption.

If you have a water meter installed, you only pay for the water you actually use – without one, your bills are estimated by the size of your home. “Water bills are based on the rateable value, which is a proxy for the house value. So be a big bill, but we use less, you know I don’t use much water… so we would likely save on a water meter,” Martin told ITV viewers in February.
A viewer called Deb replied and said: “Took your advice on water bills. Last year we paid £717.00 so we opted for the two year trial to have a meter. Chuffed to bits with our first bill of £121, with an average saving of £400.” The viewer went on, telling Mr Lewis: “We have since shared this with our family and friends and three have changed to water meter as well.”
