Martin Lewis has issued a warning to every BT, EE, Plusnet, Three and Vodafone customer. He took to his ITV programme Money Show Live to give advice to viewers following an “absolutely outrageous” update for mobile and broadband users.
He explained how BT, EE, Plusnet, Three and Vodafone have announced 7.9 per cent hikes for most customers. Martin explained that 14 million mobile customers are out of contract, while seven million broadband are eligible for a new deal.
Anyone eligible should start looking for a new deal now ahead of the price hike, he warned. “If you’re out of contract you are basically being ripped off,” Martin said.

“You are being ripped off. Go onto a price comparison site, find yourself the cheapest new SIM card or the cheapest new broadband deal, and if you don’t want to move, take that to your existing company and haggle with them.”
A spokesperson for MoneySavingExpert added: “It’s worth speaking to your broadband provider as soon as possible if you’re going to have trouble meeting your monthly bill. Some of the large providers have schemes in place to help customers who’ve encountered financial problems.
“A number of providers, including BT, Sky and Vodafone, have told us they’ll help those who are struggling to pay their bills, such as manageable payment or by giving you more time to pay.
“If you feel you’ll struggle to pay your broadband bill, contact your provider as soon as possible to discuss your options.”
