Joe Lycett has launched a fundraising campaign for a homeless charity following Suella Braverman’s remarks about rough sleeping. The Home Secretary said that rough sleeping was a ‘lifestyle choice’ amid plans to restrict the use of tents by homeless people in UK towns and cities.
She said many of those who sleep in tents are “from abroad” and insisted there is no need given the alternatives and support available to rough sleepers. She also argued that there could be an ‘explosion of crime’ if action is not taken.
The Brummie comedian posted a photo of a bowl of potpourri on Instagram, asking people to donate to Crisis. Joe, who lives in Kings Heath, wrote: “My old friend Suella Braverman has described rough sleeping as a ‘lifestyle choice’.

“I always thought lifestyle choices were things such as cargo pants, fishing and decorating your bathroom with a bowl of potpourri. Let’s see if this image I found on google described as ‘Wooden Botanical Fragrant Potpourri Bowl With Lemon’ can raise £50,000 for homelessness charity @crisis_uk.”
At the time of writing, the campaign had raised more than £6,400 at the time of writing. Davey1964 said: “I’ve worked in a homeless dependency unit in London….. not one of them was there because it was a f****** lifestyle choice. Thanks Joe…. you’re a true star!”
Abigail.holloway added: “I love this so much. The Tories want to divide us and make us hate. Better to raise money and support the people who need our compassion that they don’t get it from the government.”
Others said they wanted Joe to become Prime Minister.
