Dragons’ Den returned for a new series on Thursday night (January 5) but immediately caused some controversy. Fans were certain they had already heard one of the company’s names before.
Daniel and Lina were promoting their glasses company Pop Spec. The company makes affordable prescription strength glasses that are ready to wear in just 20 minutes.
The duo, who met at university, began trading in 2020 from a kiosk in Manchester’s Trafford Centre and have since opened ten further locations across the country. But viewers were sure they had heard the name before.

They took to X, formerly Twitter, as they realised it was the same name as the company Edina, played by Jennifer Saunders, promoted in BBC hit Absolutely Fabulous, which had the unique selling point on pop out lenses with different colours.
Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to comment. One wrote: “How original “Pop Specs” Edina will be fuming #DragonsDen.”
“Ab Fab writers and their lawyers seeing pop specs on,” a second said. “Edina Monsoon invented & copyrighted Pop Specs!” another commented.
Another added: “No Ab Fab fans in the den?!”The Dragons’ were impressed and they received offers from Touker, Peter Jones and Sara Davies. They agreed 4% each in return for £25,000 investment from each.
