BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent has been warned by Jon Kay: “You’ll get into trouble,” after a cheeky quip to Alan Shearer today. The BBC pair welcomed the Match of the Day pundit onto the show via video link on Wednesday October 4.
But the Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and England football legend was left in tears of laughter after Sally’s comment during the interview. Jon asked the former striker, who is one of the Premier League’s most iconic stars: “Have you got any rituals you go through before a game like this, any lucky pants?”
Widely regarded as one of the best strikers of all time and one of the greatest players in Premier League history, he is the Premier League’s record goalscorer with 260 goals. The 53-year-old shook his head to say no and replied: “Nothing like that, Jon, no, unfortunately.” Alan then cheekily added: “Why would I tell you, anyway?” Jon said: “We’ll let you go and get changed. Alan Shearer, thank you very much indeed.”

His co-star said: “Thanks, Alan, great to speak to you.” Sally then cheekily quipped: “Yeah, send us a photo of the lucky pants”, before Jon – who was beside her – yelled: “No!” He then said: “Right, it’s coming up to ten to nine,” as Alan disappeared from view, giggling as he dialled out.
“You’ll get into trouble for that!” Jon then warned Sally, before introducing BBC meteorologist and weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood. Jon said: “Carol has got the weather for us this morning.” Discussing the Shearer interview with Carol, Jon teased: “That made you smile! Morning.”
Carol, who was set to give the latest weather update ahead of an Indian Summer and 26C temperature highs this weekend, then replied to her co-hosts: “It certainly did. Good morning.” BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6 am on BBC One.
